be understood and empowered

a cohort of pilot students from Capital City college
imagined that young people are like spiders.

As they say:
'While it is human nature to be afraid of spiders, they are frequently compared with young people - both misunderstood and judged.

spider webs represent the strength and resilience future leaders hold and show by building their own path.

the words on the flag highlight our journey and obstacles that we've had to overcome.

Nwc is a web where we can connect and embrace our true self.'

this is their flag - which we are hand-making for NWC CLAPHAM.

But It also presents a great context for NWC's core values below.

a second cohort of pilot students from Capital City college
imagined that young people are like butterflies.

As they say:
'A butterfly begins as a caterpillar - small, unsure, and still learning. It moves slowly, taking everything in, working out who it is and what it wants to become.

The cocoon holds its shadow self: a place of isolation, reflection, and transformation. Inside, the old self dissolves, but it is never something to reject - only something to learn from, celebrate, and grow beyond.

When the butterfly breaks free, its wings are new and fragile. They need time to dry, time to strengthen and to reveal their true colours.

Taking flight is an act of confidence - a leap into adulthood, shaped by passion, boundaries, and self-understanding.

The butterfly becomes something beautiful not by forgetting who it was, but by embracing every stage of its journey.'

this is their flag - which we are also hand-making for NWC CLAPHAM.

It feels the inverse of the spider: A cycle of hope through change.
